Associate Vice President, Events
Introduction
Hi, my name is Emily Attai and I'm currently in my first year of iBiomed :) During welcome week, I got a taste of what the maceng culture was really like from attending fresh pub, GEK, etc. This got me super excited about my next 5-8 (+) years here at mac! ;) After that week, I knew I wanted to help contribute to this amazing energy and spirit that we have. So within the first couple of months of school, I joined the Mac Eng musical writing crew and recently became the co-VP Flush with the MES culture committee. As for my experience, I have experience organizing events from the planning stage all the way to the execution of the event itself from being the co-president of my high school's Model UN club as well as the co-founder of my high school’s IB mentorship group. Anyways, I'm really excited to be running to be your AVP of Events and can't wait to potentially be part of making your next school year as memorable as possible!

Campaign Platform
My platform at its core consists of creating a lively student experience for everyone. So far this year, many of my most memorable nights have been from events run by the MES like the monthly pub nights and Fireball. From talking with other students, I know that there exist many obstacles for students in being able to participate in these events. For example, not having people to go with (for safety reasons), feeling out of place if they don't drink, midterms coinciding with the event, etc. My objectives for the coming year would be to address as many of these obstacles as possible to make these events more accessible for everyone, on top of my event planning responsibilities. I want to be able to make these events as amazing of an experience as possible for all of you! My platform is founded on two main pillars: accessibility and safety + mental health.
Goals related to Accessibility:
Being a non-drinker (for whatever reason) should never be a reason why you don’t feel able or comfortable to participate in these social events. I want to make sure everyone can have a good experience so a project that I will undertake is creating a form that students can fill out every month, which will put you in contact with other students who are non-drinkers but still want to go out to these awesome events! :)
Has it ever happened that your midterm is the day after a scheduled pub night? We ALL have been there :( My goal is to try as much as possible for pub nights to not coincide with midterms because school is important but having fun is also important
The price of these events can be a barrier for some students in being able to participate so another one of my goals is to try and get the price subsidized for some of these events
Goals related to Safety + Mental Health:
As much as night outs can be fun, sometimes things happen and it is important to have resources that students can access during and after the event. My goal is to create more safety and mental health resources for students so that if something ever happens, they know that they have a support system.
For people living off-campus, safety is a huge concern because getting back home that late is not safe (especially for people who live further in another city) which makes it hard to participate actively. My goal is to try and subsidize their way home so that they can take a safer mode of transportation (i.e: Uber) instead of having to compromise on their safety
