AVP Positions

  AVP Events

CURRENT AVP EVENTS: ERIN LEIGH YUSEK

WHY ERIN RAN FOR AVP EVENTS

I ran for a position in the MES because I was always intrigued by the school involvement, since I’d never been involved in much in high school, and the MES seemed like the best fit for me. I decided to run for AVP Events specifically because I want to be able to do something that makes others happy and excited! I remember in my first year all the events I went to, all the fun I had, and all the friends I made. I wanted to make sure other students got a chance to share the same experience I had!

WHAT DID ERIN ACTUALLY DO AS AVP EVENTS

My position required a lot of behind-the-scenes work, such as being on top of contacting venues to book, organizing busses, ensuring I stay within budget, and creating volunteer schedules for events. It also included a lot of delegation, where I allowed others to take on a major role in planning events. I also oversaw Fireball, Kipling, and assisted Wellness in planning their events. I also came up with new event ideas to keep things from being the exact same every year, such as our new Share-The-Love event happening in February. I also attended every event to make sure everything was running smoothly and everyone was having fun!

  AVP aCADEMIC rESOURCES

CURRENT AVP ACADEMIC RESOURCES: TERREL MARSHALL

WHY TERREL RAN FOR AVP ACADEMIC RESOURCES

After spending a year as a first-year rep on MES council, I knew I loved the Mac Eng community and wanted to stay involved in the new term. I ran for AVP Academic Resources because I liked the idea of making a new position my own. It had just been proposed by the then-VP Academic, Ian Currie, and I was excited for the chance to mould it into something truly unique and beneficial for our students. I’ve also always been passionate about helping other students achieve their academic goals, so I think AVP AR was the perfect way for me to put my enthusiasm to use in the MES. If you want to get involved, make a difference in the lives of your peers, and beef up your resume, then I highly recommend running for this position!

WHAT DID TERREL ACTUALLY DO AS AVP ACADEMIC RESOURCES

As AVP AR, most of my time was taken up by planning MES Help Sessions and appointing Course Leads to teach them. For those of you who don’t know, the MES offers free midterm prep and course catch up sessions that run a couple times a month. It was my job to book rooms, purchase the snacks, and make sure the students leading the sessions knew what they were doing. Besides that, I ran the MES Textbook Library, which involves keeping inventory of the books on our shelves, accepting new books, and tracking down students who hadn’t returned their books by the end of the semester. I organized our semesterly Course Evals Contest, selected the winners, and awarded them their prizes. I also liked to lend a hand in other academic-related events that weren’t officially on my portfolio.

NEW    AVP cLUBS AND SERVICES

THIS NEW ROLE IS A COMBINATION OF AVP SERVICES AND PRODUCTIONS AND AVP CLUBS AND SPONSORSHIP.

CURRENT AVP SERVICES AND PRODUCTIONS: YOVANA RACIC

CURRENT AVP CLUBS AND SPONSORSHIP: HAWK YANG

WHY YOVANA AND HAWK RAN FOR AN AVP POSITION

YOVANA: I decided to run for AVP Services and Productions because I had a few people tell me I would do well in the role. I always wanted to take on more responsibility in the MES and found this to be the perfect outlet!

HAWK: In engineering, we work with machines and components to filter water or produce electricity. In government, one works with organizations and people to bring about change. I ran for my position to learn about and improve on how the MES supports all the amazing clubs and teams that make this faculty truly lit (pun intended)!

WHAT DID YOVANA ACTUALLY DO WHEN SHE WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR SERVICES

The Services aspect of the role really resonated with me. I love paperwork and rentals. The idea of creating an organizational system to manage over $10000 in assets just got me going. Radios and tents are my passion and when I found out I got to buy a new tent and tent case, holy moly, I had never been happier. I really enjoyed working with a large team and helping create and enhance the MES through my position.

WHAT DID HAWK ACTUALLY DO WHEN HE WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR CLUBS

During my term, I have had opportunities to experience so many aspects of how the MES runs day-to-day from the inside. From managing external sponsorships for the MESCard, to helping with club/team funding allocations and organizing Hatch Open House(s), I've truly felt like I've made a difference for our faculty's students. Most importantly, I've been able to work with so many different teams and people and feel very confident in leading and creating positive change no matter what kind of career I pursue.
