HOW DOES VOTING WORK IN MES ELECTIONS?
This election is decided through a ranked choice system. This means that you rank the candidates in the order that you prefer them. If your first-choice candidate receives the least votes and no candidate has more than 50% of the vote, then your first-choice candidate is removed from the election and your vote is cast for you second-choice candidate. This process repeats until one candidate has more than 50% of the vote.
You do not have to rank every single candidate. If you do not want a certain candidate elected, you can choose not to rank them at all. There are also the ABSTAIN and NO CONFIDENCE options. These are listed as candidates and work to provide alternative voting options.
Voting ABTAIN means that you are participating in the election, but you do not prefer any specific candidate. If ABSTAIN wins 50% of the vote, the next candidate with the most votes wins the election. Therefore, you count towards the number of voters, but do not affect the election.
Voting NO CONFIDENCE means that you are using your vote to say that you do not think that any of the candidates are suitable to be elected. If NO CONFIDENCE wins 50% of the vote, the election is concluded with no winner, and the election process starts again from the nomination period. Therefore, this option should only be used if you believe that no candidate up for election should hold the position at stake
