Meet the 2020-2021 Frequency Team

A LETTER FROM THE EDITORS

Hello Fireball Family!

The past year and a half has been tumultuous to say the least - maybe you graduated virtually from high school or have only ever attended university through Zoom or Microsoft Teams. It’s safe to say that being away from campus has made us all feel a little bit less connected, and so we’re hoping that the Frequency can provide a gathering point for McMaster Engineering students and their shared experiences. It is also a reflection of our team's perspective on current events and fun projects occurring within McMaster.

In this edition of the Frequency, we have compiled a collection of articles to help welcome new students to campus. We also included some articles that speak to the most pressing issues for the student body at this time, such as the ongoing

COVID-19 pandemic and concerns over a rise of sexual harassment reports at universities across Canada. Finally, we topped it off with some fun study break activities. Taking some time out of your day to decompress is super important - look after yourselves and each other!

We are extremely excited to be editing the Frequency this year - we are both passion-driven engineers with a strong desire to share ideas, encourage discussion, and connect members of our community.

We hope you enjoy the September/October edition of the Frequency! Don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns about this or future editions - our email is frequency@macengsociety.ca.

Happy reading!

ADRIENNE SCOTT & TIFFANY TJONG

Frequency Editors, 2020-2021

MEET THE TEAM

ADRIENNE SCOTT | EDITOR | ENGINEERING PHYSICS, IV

Adrienne is a 4th year Engineering Physics student and enjoys running, biking and paddling in her spare time. She applied to be an Editor for the Frequency because she believes in promoting student voices and loves reading and writing!

TIFFANY TJONG | EDITOR | CHEMICAL & BIOENGINEERING, III

Tiffany is a 3rd year Chemical Engineering and Bioengineering student with interests in green-

technology and the arts. Her favourite pastime is to watch animated movies and play the drums. Tiffany became a Frequency Editor to explore her artistic influences and help notify students of opportunities and relevant information.

SARAH ARNOLD | WRITER | CHEMICAL & iBIOMED, II

Hi, everyone! I’m currently in my second year of McMaster’s iBiomed program. Growing up, I loved the performing arts, and often participated in drama and dance. I’m very excited to join the Frequency as a writer to explore and discuss important university topics.

RIDAH ARSHAD | WRITER | CHEMICAL, II

Hey McMaster Engineering! My name is Ridah and I’m in my second year of ChemEng. In my (now limited) free time, I like to read about cool engineering breakthroughs and discoveries, historical fiction books, and also love a good thriller novel. I’m super excited to write for the Frequency this year as I’ve always had a passion for languages, literature and everything under that umbrella.

EILEEN CORNEJO | WRITER | CHEMICAL & BIOENGINEERING, III

Hellooo! I’m Eileen, one of the writers for The Frequency. Whenever I’m not trying to catch up on assignments *sad face*, you’ll find me baking, watching a movie or reading a mystery book. I had such a good time putting together this edition and I am very excited to share it with you all!

ELYSSA PROULX | WRITER | MECHANICAL & iBIOMED, II

Hey! I’m Elyssa and I’m in my second year of iBioMed. I love to write, cut my own hair, and listen to music (my current top artist is Kanye West - judge as you please), but you’ll probably find me trying to take pictures with other people’s pets or falling asleep during a movie. I hope you all enjoy reading the Frequency as much as we enjoyed making it!

ANSH TIWARI | GRAPHIC DESIGNER | COMPUTER, II

Hi there! I’m Ansh, in my second year of CompEng. In study time, you can watch me banging my head over math sums and assignments. Otherwise, you can find me on one of the trails of Hamilton. I love to talk about robotics and AI but sometimes get confused in simple programming. I loved designing this magazine and hope that you all enjoy reading it. Cheers!

BRANAVI VAIKUN | GRAPHIC DESIGNER | MECHANICAL & SOCIETY, II

Hey everyone! I'm Branavi Vaikuntharajan and I'm in my second year of MechEng. In whatever "free time" I have, you can find me watching movies, drinking coffee, working out, or having my own dance parties (I love blasting Ariana Grande and Soca). I had a great time designing this edition, I hope you all enjoy the read!
